Senior Living Transformation & Advisory

The next generation of aging cannot be served by yesterday’s operating model.

Senior living is entering one of the most consequential periods of transformation in its history. A new generation of older adults is arriving with different expectations around autonomy, wellness, technology, lifestyle, purpose, hospitality and choice while operators face changing workforce realities, rising costs, new technologies and increasing pressure to differentiate.

MJL works with owners, leaders, developers and emerging operators who are ready to rethink what senior living can become.

MJL’s consulting approach bridges conscious leadership, human-centred culture, operational intelligence, innovation and market differentiation, helping organizations move beyond outdated institutional and management paradigms toward environments where residents and team members can genuinely thrive.

The goal is not simply to operate a better retirement community. It is to create a more relevant, resilient, and soulful organization prepared for the future of aging.

Areas of Advisory

From Managing Aging to Reimagining It

The opportunity ahead is greater than improving an existing model. It is an invitation to redefine the model itself to create organizations that are operationally strong, commercially relevant, and profoundly human.

The market is changing. The consumer is changing. Technology is changing. Leadership must change with it.

Ageing doesn’t reduce you. It reveals you.

Why Hire
Marie-Josée LaFontaine

Marie-Josée LaFontaine is a senior living entrepreneur, strategist, and advocate whose career spans more than four decades of ownership, operations, development, innovation, and leadership in the seniors’ sector.

As the longtime owner and operator of Scarborough Retirement Residence and a former director of a multi-site seniors housing organization, Marie-Josée has experienced the evolution of senior living from virtually every perspective. Her work has centred on creating human-focused environments where quality of care, organizational culture, operational excellence and quality of life are treated as interconnected, not separate, priorities.

Since 2018, Marie-Josée has been actively involved with the Scarborough Ontario Health Team, including leadership and advocacy representing the Retirement Home and Long-Term Care sectors. Her work focuses on stronger integration between senior living, primary care, hospitals and home and community care, with particular emphasis on reducing fragmentation and creating more coordinated, person-centred systems for older adults.

Through MJL Consulting, Marie-Josée brings a distinctive approach combining operational experience with innovation, conscious leadership and cultural transformation. She advises senior living operators, developers and emerging organizations on market positioning, resident experience, leadership development, organizational culture, service models and the changing expectations of the next generation of older adults.

A passionate advocate for seniors, Marie-Josée closely examines the social, demographic, technological and healthcare trends reshaping aging. She believes the future of senior living will require more than new buildings and better technology: it will require a shift in consciousness about how society views aging, leadership, and human potential.

At the heart of her work is a simple principle: exceptional senior living begins with seeing the whole person. Marie-Josée is committed to helping organizations move beyond traditional models of care to create environments where older adults can continue to grow, contribute, connect, and live with purpose.
